For 75 years, Thompson Temple Church of God in Christ has been more than a place of worship. Across generations, the church has responded to the practical needs of families throughout the West Bank and Greater New Orleans area through food assistance, clothing, holiday outreach, youth initiatives, community events, and compassionate service.

Serving Since 1951

Thanksgiving Outreach

Our Thanksgiving outreach can be traced back at least to the 1990s, when Thompson Temple began providing approximately 30–40 families each year with baskets containing the food, meat, seasonings, and sides needed to prepare a complete Thanksgiving meal. Today, that tradition continues through our annual turkey giveaway.

Christmas Giving

For approximately a decade, Thompson Temple has conducted annual Christmas outreach for children and families, typically providing at least 50 toys each year. During one memorable Christmas outreach, approximately 40 bicycles were distributed to children in the community.

Back-to-School Outreach

For the past seven years, Thompson Temple’s Back-to-School Block Party has helped local families prepare for the school year through free school supplies and community-centered activities.

COVID-19 Response

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Thompson Temple partnered with World Vision to conduct weekly and biweekly food distributions for the surrounding community. At the height of the need, vehicles lined the block as families came to receive boxes of food and essential assistance.

Year-Round Support

Today, Thompson Temple continues serving its neighbors through a year-round food pantry and clothing closet located through the ministry and Family Life Center.

Community Outreach Day

Saturday, December 12, 2026

A cornerstone of our Diamond Jubilee — giving back to the West Bank community that has supported us for 75 years. Food distribution, toy giveaways, hot meals, health screenings, and free legal aid, all made possible through the generosity of partners like you.

Investing in the Next 75 Years

Expanding Our Community Impact

The Keith E. Thornton Sr. Family Life Center

The Keith E. Thornton Sr. Family Life Center gives Thompson Temple the infrastructure to expand its service beyond Sunday worship. Jubilee partnership dollars will help strengthen the programs, resources, and outreach conducted through the center and throughout the ministry.

Computer Lab & Senior Programming

The Family Life Center already houses a computer lab equipped with donated computers. Thompson Temple intends to activate this resource for community programming, including computer-literacy and digital-skills instruction for senior citizens. The church also plans to develop biweekly free meal programming for senior citizens during the week.

"Every box packed, every meal served, every coat given — is love made visible."

Your Investment at Work

Your Investment Extends Beyond a Celebration

Home for 75 commemorates an extraordinary milestone, but our vision extends far beyond five days in December.

Corporate and community investment will help Thompson Temple strengthen the programs and resources that allow us to serve our neighbors year-round. Jubilee proceeds will help support youth and family programming; replenish our food pantry and clothing closet; expand community outreach and holiday assistance; develop planned biweekly meal programming for senior citizens; and activate our Family Life Center computer lab for senior computer-literacy and digital-skills training.

Your partnership does not simply help us celebrate 75 years. It helps equip Thompson Temple to serve for the next 75.
